I am a specialist in rhetoric and writing studies. I have a Phd in Composition, Literacy and Culture from Indiana University and an MA in TESOL/ Applied Linguistics (secondary area: Socio-Linguistic Anthropology) from Iowa State University. Before joining the University of Glasgow as a Lecturer in the School of Education, I was an Assistant Professor of Rhetoric and Composition at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
My research is transdisciplinary, bringing together strands from translingualism, cultural education and social justice, digital literacies, and computational rhetoric. My work has appeared in Computers and Composition and JAEPL: The Journal of the Assembly for Expanded Perspectives on Learning and I am currently involved in a series of projects with professional and public impact. In the classroom, my students analyze and produce artifacts that cross cultural and media boundaries. They put together individual and team-authored projects which they publish and share in multiple environments. I have recently developed advanced rhetoric courses: one on rhetorical theory and another on composing multi-sensorial experiences in digital environments. In the past, I have taught at and received degrees from Indiana University and Iowa State University. I worked with students in first-year writing courses, advanced composition, rhetoric classes, and applied linguistics. While all the things I have listed above are an overview of my work, my biggest accomplishment, however, is the joy I experience from working with wonderful people: students, peers, and colleagues who have given me inspiration and guidance throughout my years of practice. |
